COSTA MESA : Fund-Raising Walk Sunday for Hospital

A 5-kilometer walk, sponsored by the Children’s Hospital of Orange County and Disneyland to raise money for the the Children’s Hospital, will be held Sunday at the Town Center near the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
Corporate and individual sponsors of all ages are being sought for the third annual event, which begins at 8 a.m., said hospital official Andrea Pronk.
Prizes, such as collectible T-shirts, will be given to those who raise more than $25 and a $200 Nordstrom shopping certificate and a chance to win a trip for four to Disney World in Florida will be given to those who raise more than $1,000, Pronk said.
Celebrities, such as Mickey Mouse and Olympic swimming gold medalists Janet Evans, John Naber and Sammy Lee will be available at the Town Center to sign autographs.
Refreshments and entertainment will also be available at South Coast Plaza. Some of the other celebrities on hand will be CHOCO the Bear, the hospital mascot, former Olympic high jumper Dwight Stones and television news anchor Bree Walker. Live performances by rock stars Jan and Dean will also be featured.
The walk, which is 3.1 miles, begins at the Town Center and goes through the South Coast Plaza and then returns and finishes at the Town Center.
