PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Brown Is Glad to Be Staying Put

Receiver Tim Brown said he received about 50 calls Tuesday from friends wanting to know if he was still wearing silver and black.

Although the Raiders have denied it, Brown kept insisting that the club would trade him under the right circumstances because he will be a restricted free agent at season’s end.

“It didn’t happen and I’m happy,” Brown said. “If it would have happened, I’d have been happy.”

Brown’s four punt returns in Monday night’s 23-20 victory over Denver gave him 168 in his career and tied him with Neal Colzie for the all-time team lead.

Brown has gained 1,683 yards on those returns, leaving him 64 short of Colzie’s total of 1,747, another club record. Colzie, a defensive back, spent four seasons with the Raiders, starting in 1975. Brown is in his sixth season.
