* BRENTWOOD ART SHOW: Approved the temporary closure of Barrington Place between Barrington Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, and Chayote Street between Sunset and Barrington Place, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31 for the Brentwood Fall Art Show. City fees of $2,928 were waived for the event, which is sponsored by the Brentwood Village Chamber of Commerce.
* UNITED NATIONS DAYS: Approved the closure of the parking lane and one traffic lane on the north side of Rodeo Road between Genesee Avenue and the courtyard of the Baha’i Center from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the United Nations Day Street Fair. City fees of $412 were waived for the event, sponsored by the Baha’is of Los Angeles.
* APPOINTMENTS: Approved the appointments of Paula K. Meehan to the Productivity Commission and Ann G. Petroni to the Commission on the Status of Women. Both live in the Bel-Air Estates area. Also approved the appointment of Jennifer L. Perry, who lives in the Marina Del Rey area, to the Child Care Advisory Board.
HOW THEY VOTED
How Westside representatives voted on selected issues.
* DOMESTIC PARTNERS: Approved a proposal by Jackie Goldberg urging the state Public Employees Retirement System to grant health insurance coverage to the unmarried partners of public employees. Goldberg is working on legislation to give health insurance and other benefits to the partners of unmarried city employees. PASSED: 10-0.
VOTING YES: John Ferraro, Goldberg and Zev Yaroslavsky.
ABSENT: Marvin Braude, Ruth Galanter, Nate Holden and Mark Ridley-Thomas.
* IMMIGRATION: Approved a proposal directing the city’s chief legislative analyst and the city attorney to study the local effects of new immigration measures recently signed into law by Gov. Pete Wilson. The laws are aimed at discouraging illegal immigration. One of the bills would prohibit driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants; another requires proof of legal residency for participation in state-funded job training programs. PASSED: 12-0.
VOTING YES: Ferraro, Galanter, Goldberg and Yaroslavsky.
ABSENT: Braude, Holden and Ridley-Thomas.
