PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Gonzalez Helps Orange Upset No. 1 Santa Ana

Jamie Gonzalez’s first-half goal and strong goalkeeping by Neil Vanzuide helped Orange upset No. 1-ranked Santa Ana, 1-0, Friday in a nonleague boys’ soccer game. Vanzuide had 11 saves for the Panthers, who improve 1-1. Santa Ana drops to 1-1.
In other nonleague boys’ soccer:
Capistrano Valley Christian 0, Temecula Linfield 0--Goalkeeper Peter Georgantopolous had 10 saves for Capistrano Valley Christian (0-1-1).
Cypress 4, Rancho Alamitos 0--Chuck Caldarella scored twice and Ken Cody and Greg Cleave each scored as the host Centurions (2-0) posted their second shutout.
Dana Hills 1, Estancia 0--Tyler Morgan, who was assisted by Andres Morgante, scored the game’s only goal for Dana Hills (1-0).
El Modena 2, Katella 1--Justin Boyce and Robbie Merchant scored for visiting El Modena (2-0).
Foothill 3, Laguna Hills 1--Steven Patterson scored all three goals for Foothill (1-0). Ryan Boyajian scored for Laguna Hills (0-2). Foothill goalkeeper Lenny Runder had four saves.
Fullerton 3, Santiago 3--Jamie Ramirez saved Fullerton from a loss, scoring the tying goal late in the second half. Antonio Jaramillo had a goal and an assist for Fullerton (0-0-1). Santiago is (1-0-1).
Kennedy 4, Whittier 1--Danny Arreguin had two goals for Kennedy (2-0).
Los Amigos 2, Costa Mesa 0--Ruben Tapia and Antonio Torres each scored to lead Los Amigos (1-1) to the victory at Costa Mesa.
Mater Dei 2, Los Angles Loyola 1--Mike McCabe and Kevin Quigley scored to lead Mater Dei in its season opener.
Sonora 1, El Monte Mountain View 0--Paul Copeland scored for visiting Sonora (1-0-1).
Savanna 4, La Quinta 0--Junior Daniel Moice scored all four goals for Savanna (1-0-2). Moice has seven goals this season.
Villa Park 1, Tustin 0--Shawn Power scored the lone goal to lead Villa Park (1-0).
In girls’ nonleague soccer:
EL Toro 3, Laguna Hills 1--Sophomore goalkeeper Heather Lindstrom, with five saves, made some key stops for El Toro (1-1). Jenny Fricke, Jenny Davis and Jamie Loebrich each scored for the Chargers.
Garden Grove 2, Santa Ana Valley 1--Tamra Miller and Jeni Miller each scored for Garden Grove (1-1-1). Santa Ana Valley scored on its only shot.
Kennedy 2, La Habra 2--Down, 2-0, at the end of the half, La Habra scored twice in the second half. Lorie Fritz and Heather Darrin scored for Kennedy.
