Interstate 5 Stretch to Be Closed for Construction
- Share via
All of the northbound lanes on Interstate 5 from the El Toro Road underpass to the Lake Forest Drive overpass will be closed to traffic for three nights beginning this week during the first stage of construction on the El Toro “Y” interchange project.
The closure will take place midnight until 5 a.m. Friday; midnight until 5 a.m. Monday, and midnight until 5 a.m. Dec. 14.
Construction crews will be setting up cement barriers to cordon off the construction zone and will be re-striping traffic lanes--a move that will reduce lane widths from 12 feet to 11 feet. The number of lanes will remain the same.
Detour signs will redirect northbound motorists off the freeway at El Toro Road to Rockfield Boulevard, which will take them to the Lake Forest Drive on-ramp.
The project is funded primarily through the Measure M half-cent sales tax. Improvements will include a new interchange at Bake Parkway, additional parallel lanes, redesigned exits, car-pool lanes and freeway connectors.
