SURF BANDS

While I thoroughly enjoyed your coverage of the current surf music scene (“Riding a ‘60s Splashback,” by Chuck Crisafulli, Aug. 18), I am surprised that you omitted Los Straitjackets. This quartet out of Nashville regularly headlines surf concerts here and at venues across the country. They even have a song doing well on adult-alternative radio stations called “Pacifica.”

Crisafulli excluded one of Los Angeles’ most enduring surf bands, the Halibuts. It has been my good fortune to know and work with the group on “Chumming” and the just-released “Life on the Bottom,” both on Upstart Records, home of Los Straitjackets and Laika & the Cosmonauts. I’m sure all the artists mentioned in the story would acknowledge the Halibuts’ place among the best in the resurging surf music revival.
