The Anaheim Prep Sports-Activities Foundation is gathering local support with a $25,000 donation from Disneyland and a pledge from the Mighty Ducks.
The City Council today may also join the list of contributors, considering a $100,000 donation to the foundation.
“If the city adds money to the program, thousands of junior and senior high students will benefit,” said Mayor Tom Daly, a committee member of the nonprofit joint venture between the city and Anaheim Union High School District.
The foundation is seeking to raise $600,000 for after-school sports and activities for junior high and senior high students.
During the 1997-98 Mighty Ducks hockey season, a $5 fee will be charged for meals served to members of the media, staff and others who eat in the press dining room, with proceeds donated to the foundation, Daly said.
