Workshop to Detail Federal Grant Process
City officials will offer workshops next week for nonprofit organizations interested in applying for funds available next fiscal year through federal Community Development Block Grants.
Scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 27 at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road, the three-hour workshop will detail everything from the application process to filing funding requests.
The City Council requires that organizations attend the workshop as a condition of receiving block grant funding.
The Community Development Block Grant program solicits projects and activities from nonprofit organizations that give direct benefit to the city and residents.
In the current fiscal year, the city distributed $849,000 in federal funds to groups including the Boys & Girls Club for its anti-gang program and to the Simi Valley Historical Society and Museum for a windmill exhibition.
For fiscal 1998-99, the city has about $804,000 available to organizations for community projects.
