Quarterback Billy Hart and running back Robbie Dubois carried Mission Viejo to a 42-7 South Coast League victory over Trabuco Hills Friday at Mission Viejo High.
Hart completed 10 of 15 passes for 139 yards and ran for a touchdown, and afterward he said, “Our offense was unstoppable in the first half. I’m proud of my performance.”
Dubois was a thorn in Trabuco Hills’ side all night, with 116 yards and four touchdowns in 22 carries.
Dubois scored all four of his touchdowns in the second quarter, on runs of two, 28, four and one yard, helping the Diablos to a 35-7 halftime lead. His last two scores were set up by Mission Viejo interceptions of passes thrown by Trabuco Hills’ John Baggerley.
The Mustangs tried to rally late in the first half, advancing 64 yards in three plays and scoring on a Baggerley pass as the half ended.
The Trabuco Hills defense came alive in the second half, limiting Dubois to 40 yards. But the Mustang offense could not capitalize, with running back David Barrett rushing for only 10 yards and Baggerley completing two of eight passes in the half.
The final score of the game came with 5:07 to play. Mission Viejo pushed to Trabuco Hills’ seven-yard line. On the next play, tight end Tommy Cullinan picked up a Chris Badraun fumble and stumbled in for the touchdown.
