School District

As a Woodland Hills Homeowner Assn. board member, I applaud Richard Close and Valley VOTE officials for their current interest in the feasibility of a K-12 school district (or districts) in the San Fernando Valley (“Secessionists to Scrutinize School District,” Oct. 19).
It is a daunting challenge for Valley public education reformers to successfully define decentralization and new school district structures. Mere separation and autonomy from the Los Angeles Unified School District is only a condition precedent. More substantive and essential are resolution of financial, teacher union, administrator union, legal, statutory requirements, facilities development and overall accountability for successful performance.
