Esperanza Beats Etiwanda, 57-54

Laura Jacobsen scored eight of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as second-seeded Esperanza held off Etiwanda, 57-54, in a Division I-AAA second-round girls’ basketball playoff game Saturday at Esperanza.
The Eagles took a one-point lead after making a three-point shot at the buzzer, but the Aztecs outscored Etiwanda, 10-6, in the fourth quarter.
In Division III-AA second-round games:
Inglewood Morningside 67, Costa Mesa 57--Nancy Hatsushi, Costa Mesa’s leading scorer, left the game with a leg injury and the Mustangs leading by one with just under seven minutes remaining.
Rosary 82, Ridgecrest Burroughs 53--Jenise Karcher had 23 points and Jen Farner had 21 points, nine assists and six steals for second-seeded Rosary (22-7), which outscored Burroughs, 27-9, in the third quarter. Rosary will play La Canada, a 51-34 winner over Corona del Mar.
In Division I-AA first-round games:
Downey Warren 65, Santa Ana Valley 52--Crystal Davis had 29 points for host Santa Ana Valley (20-7).
El Toro 55, Montebello Schurr 39--Carrie Twaddell scored a career-high 31 points and added 10 blocks for visiting El Toro (19-6), which will next host Camarillo.
Irvine 89, Coachella Valley 35--Kristin Thawley had 32 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists as Irvine (21-6) held leads of 50-8 at halftime and 71-16 after three quarters. Irvine will play Redlands.
Temecula Valley 49, University 44--Kirsten von Tungeln had 14 points and 16 rebounds for University (15-11).
Walnut 64, Century 42--Charlenda Van Buren had 13 points for Century (18-9).
Westminster 65, Simi Valley Royal 60--Ashley Hebert scored 26 points and April Robles added 15 points for Westminster (21-5). Kinsley Mittle led Royal with 19 points. The Lions will play at Temecula Valley in the second round.
In Division IV:
Calvary Chapel 66, Riverside Notre Dame 31--Lindsey Richelli scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead Calvary Chapel (19-8).
In Division IV-AA:
Orange Lutheran 60, L.A. Bishop Conaty-Loretto 40--Leanna Holtzclaw scored 18 points and Vanessa Benitez had 14 points and 11 rebounds for visiting Orange Lutheran (17-9).
In Division V-AA first-round games:
Brethren Christian 58, San Gabriel Academy 44--Heather Spowart scored 27 points for visiting Brethren Christian (18-9).
Capistrano Valley Christian 53, Canoga Park AGBU 33--Bethany Thom had 23 points and 15 steals to lead host Capistrano Valley Christian (18-6)..
