Water Protesters May Face Arrest

Facing growing civil disobedience over the loss of water in the Klamath Basin, U.S. law enforcement officials announced Friday they will consider prosecuting protesters who engage in vandalism.
Canal gates have been forced open by vigilantes three times over the last week to let water flow to the more than 1,400 farms that this spring saw their allotment cut off in favor of protecting endangered sucker fish and salmon.
On July 4, a crowd of 150 protesters forced open the gates while local law officers stood by, saying they had no jurisdiction to intervene.
