Virginia Executes Killer of 2 Children

JARRATT, Va. — Daniel Lee Zirkle, who stabbed his 4-year-old daughter and her 14-year-old half-sister to death on Aug. 2, 1999, was executed Tuesday at the Greensville Correctional Center in Virginia.
Zirkle, 33, of Timberville, was executed by injection.
Zirkle tried to kill himself with a knife the same day he murdered the children.
He asked to be sentenced to death and did not appeal his sentence. He was the second so-called Virginia volunteer to be put to death this year. James Earl Patterson, who also gave up his appeals, was executed March 14.
