Elvis stands apart

AS one who grew up during Elvis’ rise to fame and loved his music, I know he loved all types of music and would probably be happy for the success Mariah [Carey] has found [“But She’s Not You,” by Randy Lewis, April 5]. But just ask how many Elvis songs you can name and, more important, hum. Now try to do the same for Mariah.
Elvis was an original, and time and record sales will never take away the fact that he is the most successful and famous vocal artist ever (and he was only one, compared to the four Beatles and the four Stones), and he will always be the King.
